The project
Gurrulnk is our platform for tuition classes and institutes. It brings students, classes, attendance, fees, and parent communication into one dashboard.
Tuition is a big part of education in Sri Lanka, but most classes are still run on spreadsheets, chat groups, and handwritten fee books. Gurrulnk replaces that patchwork.

What it does
Mark attendance fast
Students scan a QR code as they arrive, or the teacher marks them by hand. Either way the record is saved instantly.
Collect and track fees
See who has paid and who has not for every class, and send reminders without chasing each family one by one.
Manage new inquiries
Every parent or student who asks about a class is tracked from first contact through to enrolment.
Keep parents informed
Share attendance, payments, and class updates with parents directly, instead of through busy chat groups.
See how the class is doing
Reports show attendance trends, fee collection, and growth, so tutors can make decisions from real numbers.

The brief
The challenge
Tuition teams run classes across spreadsheets, chat groups, and payment logs, with little visibility over each student.
How we gathered the requirements
We spent time with individual tutors and with admin staff at larger institutes, and followed a normal class day from start to finish.
We collected the actual spreadsheets, fee books, and message threads they were using, and listed every place information was being copied by hand.
Tutors were clear that anything new had to be quicker than what they already did, especially at the start of a busy class. That rule guided every screen.

How we approached it

Attendance first
We started with attendance because it happens every class and everything else, such as fees and reports, builds on it.

Then money
Fee tracking and reminders came next, since unpaid fees were the most time-consuming problem tutors described.

Then growth
Inquiries, parent communication, and reports followed once the daily basics were working smoothly for real classes.

Challenges we solved
Challenge
Taking attendance for large classes without slowing down the start of the lesson.
How we solved it
QR check-in lets students mark themselves as they walk in, with manual marking kept as a quick fallback for anyone without their code.
Challenge
Following up on unpaid fees is awkward and time consuming for tutors.
How we solved it
Gurrulnk shows the outstanding balance for each student at a glance and sends reminders, so tutors no longer have to raise it in person.
Challenge
Every institute runs its classes and payments a little differently.
How we solved it
Classes, fee amounts, and schedules are set up by each institute, so the platform fits how they already work rather than forcing a new process.

The result
Gurrulnk is live and used by tutors and institutes across Sri Lanka.
Attendance, fees, and inquiries live in one dashboard instead of separate books and chats.
Tutors and admin teams can see the state of every class and every student without digging through records.

How we run it today
We run Gurrulnk ourselves and keep improving it alongside the tutors who use it. Requests from institutes are reviewed regularly and the most common ones go into upcoming releases.
